This lecture mainly discusses letters, diaries and self-portrait films. They are very special parts in essay films. They often have a very clear autobiographical style and the subjectivity of the author. They exist in the gap between first-person documentaries, avant-garde films and video art. The authors use films to write letters, or let films achieve their unique writing styles in the appearance of diaries, notes and self-portraits, thus shaping complex, changeable, fictional and real selves.

杨晨（Yang Chen），艺术家、西安美术学院跨媒体艺术系实验艺术专业主任。西安美术学院在读博士，2009年毕业于法国利摩日国立高等美术学院，获国家高等艺术表现文凭DNSEP，2010年毕业于法国里昂国立高等美术学院第三阶段 硕士后Post Diplôme ，2014年中国海外研修工程选派学者。

Yang Chen, Artist, director of the Experimental Art major of the Cross-media Art Department of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. A doctoral student at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Limoges, France in 2009 and obtained the DNSEP (Diplôme National Supérieur d'Expression Plastique). Graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, France in 2010 with a Post-Diplôme in the third stage. Selected as a scholar of the China Overseas Training Project in 2014.
